Issues and Positions

What's at Stake
The Texas State Board of Education shapes the future of our schools. From curriculum standards and instructional materials to graduation requirements, accountability systems, and educator preparation, SBOE decisions affect every student, teacher, and community in our state.
These decisions should be guided by expertise, research, and a deep understanding of how students learn—not ideology, politics, or personal opinion. Texas needs leaders on the SBOE who understand education as a system of learning, growth, and opportunity, and who are committed to policies that serve all students, not just a select few.
My positions are grounded in research, classroom reality, and a belief that public education is one of Texas’s greatest responsibilities and greatest opportunities.
Policy Grounded in Research, Not Politics
Texas schools deserve decisions based on evidence, expertise, and what works for learners—not ideology or political trends.
Academic Policy
and Learning Issues
Curriculum and Standards
Texas standards must prioritize critical thinking, problem-solving, and deep understanding—not surface-level memorization. Standards should be written by educators and grounded in learning science.
Testing and Accountability
High-stakes testing does not reflect what we want our student to know and be able to do. Accountability systems should focus on measuring growth, opportunity, engagement, and student support rather than how well students can remember facts and terms.
Social Studies and Religious Neutrality
Public schools must teach honest, research-based history while respecting the separation of church and state. Students should learn about role religion plays in past events, not be encouraged to adopt any single belief system.
Teacher Certification
Teaching is a complex profession that requires strong preparation. Texas should strengthen certification standards and professional learning not lower expectations or shortcut needed preparation.

Hope, Expertise, and Change for TX Schools
He brings a vision of possibility, deep educational knowledge, and a commitment to building a stronger future for every student.

School Governance
and Funding Issues
Vouchers and Privatization
I oppose diverting public funds to private schools that serve the needs of a few rather than the good of the many. Strong public schools require strong public investment.
Charter Schools
Charter schools should meet the same rigorous accountability, governance, and performance standards as public schools. Texas should pause charter expansion until these standards are enforced.
Virtual Schools
Technology should support learning, not replace schools. Fully virtual schools often isolate students, widen inequities, and weaken community schools.
School Takeovers
State takeovers harm communities, silence local voices, and rarely improve student experience. Texas should support districts through partnership and investment—not punishment and privatization.
